Privacy Policy & Terms of Use
Privacy Policy
Last updated: 25 May 2026
In short
We design our apps to collect as little personal information as practical. Many of our apps store their data on your device or, where an app offers sync, in your own Apple iCloud account. We do not sell your personal information.
There are still a few places where personal information may be involved: when you create or sign in to an account, when you contact us for support, when Apple processes purchases or subscriptions, when diagnostics, analytics or advertising are enabled, when a feature relies on a third-party service, or when you explicitly choose to send information to us.
Who we are
Armchair Engineering builds and publishes apps and related websites. This policy explains how we handle personal information across the Armchair Engineering website, our general app portfolio, support channels and related services.
Our portfolio includes utility, productivity, widget, podcast, reference, calculator, converter, habit, timetable, market-data and creator tools. Some products, including Renvy and Student Timetable, have their own product websites and may provide product-specific privacy policies or terms. Where a product-specific privacy policy applies, that policy should be read together with this policy and takes precedence for that product to the extent it says something different.

Information we collect
Support and contact forms
If you contact us, we may collect the information you choose to provide, such as your name, email address, platform, product, message and any details needed to help with your request.
Our website contact form is processed by Formspree. Formspree may process the information you submit so that it can be delivered to us.
Accounts and cloud data
Some apps use account, authentication, database or cloud services such as Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, iCloud or CloudKit. Where these services are used, they may process account identifiers, sign-in details, device or app information, and app data needed to provide account, sync, backup, collaboration, entitlement or cloud-storage features.
For example, an app may use Firebase Authentication to let you sign in, and Cloud Firestore to store app records linked to your account. The specific information stored depends on the app and the features you use.
App data and user content
Many Armchair Engineering apps store content locally on your device. Depending on the app, this may include notes, tasks, timetables, habits, widget settings, saved links, podcast or media metadata, generated files, imported documents, calculations, preferences, saved items or other app content. Some apps offer sync using Apple services such as iCloud or CloudKit. In those cases, your data is stored in your Apple iCloud account and handled by Apple under Apple's own terms and privacy policy.
We do not normally have access to your app content. If an app feature sends content to a third-party service, such as an AI, media-processing, market-data or content provider, that processing should be described by the app, product-specific policy or the relevant service terms. If you send us screenshots, files, logs or other content while asking for support, we will use that material only to investigate and respond to your request.
AI and media processing
Some products or features may use AI or media-processing services, including Google Gemini APIs. If you use those features, the text, images, prompts, files, instructions, settings, generated outputs or other content needed to provide the feature may be sent to the relevant provider for processing.
Purchases and subscriptions
Purchases and subscriptions made through the App Store are processed by Apple. We do not receive your full payment card details. We may receive or process purchase-related information needed to provide access to paid features, such as product identifiers, transaction or subscription status, renewal state, storefront or receipt information.
Analytics, diagnostics, crash reports and advertising
Some apps may collect limited analytics or diagnostics to help us understand feature usage, fix bugs and improve reliability. Where we use analytics, we aim to keep it aggregated, anonymous or de-identified where practical.
Crash reports and diagnostic information may include technical details such as device type, operating system version, app version, crash logs and performance information.
Some older or free apps may include advertising or cross-promotion. Where advertising is present, the relevant advertising provider may process information needed to show, measure or secure ads, subject to the provider's own policies and applicable platform privacy rules.
Website browsing
When you browse our website, our hosting provider may automatically process technical information such as your IP address, browser type, pages requested, referring page and the date and time of your visit. We use this information to operate, secure and improve the website.
Our website may use cookies or similar technologies where needed for ordinary site functionality, spam prevention, form handling, analytics or security. You can disable cookies in your browser, although some parts of the site may not work as expected.
Third-party services and content
Some app features may request information from third-party services, such as content feeds, market data, podcast directories, cloud services, app stores, AI or media-processing providers, analytics providers, advertising providers or crash-reporting providers. These services may receive technical information needed to respond to the request, such as your IP address, device or app information, or the specific content requested.
How we use information
We use personal information only for the purposes for which it was provided or reasonably needed, including to:
- respond to support requests and other messages;
- provide, maintain and improve our apps and websites;
- provide account, sign-in, sync, backup, cloud-storage or AI-powered features;
- process or verify purchases and subscriptions;
- diagnose crashes, bugs and performance issues;
- show, measure or secure ads where an app includes advertising;
- prevent spam, abuse, fraud and security issues;
- comply with legal obligations; and
- communicate important product or service information.
When we share information
We do not sell your personal information.
We may share or disclose information only where reasonably needed, including:
- with service providers who help us operate our apps, websites, support systems, authentication, cloud storage, AI processing, analytics, diagnostics, advertising or payment-related features;
- with Apple or other app store providers where needed for purchases, subscriptions, app distribution, diagnostics or platform services;
- with third-party services when an app feature requires those services to fulfil your request;
- if required by law, legal process or a valid government request; or
- to protect the rights, safety or security of our users, our apps, our websites or Armchair Engineering.
Where a third-party service processes information for us, we rely on the service provider's terms, published policies, platform requirements and contractual commitments, as applicable.
Retention and deletion
We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably needed for the purposes described in this policy, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law.
Support messages are kept while needed to respond to your request, maintain support history, diagnose issues or meet legal and accounting requirements. Diagnostic and analytics information is generally retained in aggregated or de-identified form where practical.
You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information we hold about you by contacting us:
https://armchairengineering.com/support/
Where an app provides account controls, you may also be able to manage or delete account information directly in the app.
Some data, such as App Store purchase records, iCloud data or information held directly by a third-party account or cloud provider, is controlled by that provider. You may need to manage or delete that information through your Apple, Google, Firebase or other provider account settings or support channels.
Your choices
You can choose not to send us support requests or optional feedback. You can manage app permissions, iCloud sync, notifications, analytics sharing, advertising preferences and subscription settings through your device, app, Apple account or App Store settings, depending on the feature.
If you have subscribed to emails from us, you can unsubscribe using the instructions in the email or by contacting us.
Children
Our apps and websites are not intended to knowingly collect personal information from children without appropriate consent. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can review and delete it where appropriate.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information we hold. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Australian privacy law
Armchair Engineering is based in Australia. The Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) applies to many Australian organisations, including organisations with annual turnover above the relevant threshold and some smaller businesses in specific circumstances. Even where we are not legally required to comply with every part of the Privacy Act, we aim to handle personal information responsibly and transparently.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in our apps, websites, business practices or legal requirements. When we make changes, we will update the date at the top of this page.
Terms of Use
Last updated: 25 May 2026
Terms of Use
These terms apply to Armchair Engineering apps, websites and related services that link to or otherwise present these terms. By using our apps or websites, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, you should not use them.
Some apps may also be subject to Apple's standard End User License Agreement, Google Play terms, or other platform terms. Some products, including Renvy and Student Timetable, have their own product websites and may provide product-specific terms or privacy policies. If an app has a separate license agreement or product-specific terms, those terms also apply and take precedence for that product to the extent they say something different.
Using our apps and websites
Subject to these terms and any applicable app store terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use our apps for your personal or internal use on devices you own or control.
You must not:
- copy, resell, redistribute or commercially exploit our apps or websites without permission;
- reverse engineer, decompile or attempt to extract source code except where allowed by law;
- remove copyright, trademark or other proprietary notices;
- interfere with, damage or misuse our apps, websites, servers or related services; or
- use our apps or websites in a way that is unlawful, harmful or infringes someone else's rights.
Purchases and subscriptions
Some apps offer paid downloads, in-app purchases, subscriptions, advertising-supported features or lifetime unlocks. Purchases made through the App Store or another app store are processed by that store provider, not directly by us.
For App Store subscriptions:
- payment is charged to your Apple account at confirmation of purchase;
- subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current subscription period;
- renewal may be charged within 24 hours before the end of the current period;
- you can manage or cancel subscriptions in your Apple account or App Store settings;
- prices, durations, trial availability and features are shown in the app and on the App Store purchase sheet before purchase; and
- cancellation of an active subscription generally takes effect at the end of the current paid period, unless Apple states otherwise.
Lifetime purchases or one-time unlocks provide access to the relevant paid features for the supported lifetime of that app or product, subject to these terms, platform rules and technical availability.
Changes to apps, features and availability
We may update, improve, remove, suspend or discontinue apps, websites, features or services from time to time. We aim to avoid unnecessary disruption, but we cannot guarantee that every feature or service will remain available forever.
Some features depend on third-party services, app stores, operating systems, internet access, account providers, cloud databases, cloud providers, APIs, AI or media-processing providers, market data, content feeds, podcast directories, advertising networks or platform capabilities outside our control. Those features may change, become unavailable or stop working if the relevant third-party service changes.
User content and feedback
You remain responsible for content you create, store, import, generate or share using our apps.
If you send us feedback, suggestions, bug reports or ideas, you allow us to use them to improve our apps, websites and services without owing compensation or attribution.
AI-generated or transformed content may be inaccurate, incomplete, unexpected or unsuitable for your intended use. You are responsible for reviewing outputs and making sure you have the rights and permissions needed for any content you submit, generate, save or share.
Privacy
Our handling of personal information is described in our Privacy Policy:
https://armchairengineering.com/privacy/
Character Keyboard and Full Access
Some keyboard-related apps or extensions may require Apple's Full Access permission to share settings, themes or other configuration with the parent app. Full Access is not used by us to record, transmit or collect what you type.
No financial, legal or professional advice
Some apps may display or generate calculators, conversions, reference information, market information, public-holiday information, podcast or media metadata, timetable or task information, images, video, text or other data. This information is provided for general convenience only and should not be treated as financial, legal, tax, medical, engineering, educational or other professional advice. You should verify important information independently before relying on it.
Warranties and liability
Our apps and websites are provided "as is" and "as available". To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, availability and non-infringement.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Armchair Engineering is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for loss of data, profits, revenue, goodwill or business opportunity.
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any consumer guarantee, warranty or right that cannot be excluded under applicable law.
Intellectual property
Our apps, websites, names, icons, designs, text, graphics, code and other materials are owned by Armchair Engineering or our licensors and are protected by copyright, trademark and other laws. These terms do not transfer any ownership rights to you.
Termination
We may suspend or terminate access to our apps, websites or related services if you breach these terms, misuse our services, create legal risk, or if continued access is no longer practical or permitted.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia, except where local consumer law requires otherwise.
